Site gets the hits; Zook gets the hook
I tried to check out the fireronzook.com site yesterday afternoon at work — it just said “Service Unavailable.” It still does. But someone else said it had a celebratory message of sorts after the announcement was made, and before the site pretty much crashed.
A rare UF-related post…

campaign visits aren’t all they’re cracked up to be…
Posted by eric on October 17, 2004
from Communities cope with costs of campaign stops:
The campaign also reimbursed a local museum $1,100 for four young maple trees it asked to be cut down in a parking lot needed for the rally. But Springfield also spent about $15,000 on police overtime it doesn’t expect to see back.
That’s a lot of money.

Last night’s entry about the Muppets beat Slashdot’s entry by a good 11 hours. Haha. That’s great. I wonder if I can pull that off with something else. Stay tuned!

Democrats give Ron Reagan prime time speaking slot
Interesting. I wonder if the nets will carry it. I know that NBC has already announced their plans for convention coverage.

Airliner lands at wrong airport – Jun 20, 2004
Yeah, that’s bad. I like CNN’s subheading on the story: Passengers told not to peek.

Huge jackpot reflects trend in state lotteries
Apparently some lotteries are getting harder to win. But I think many lotto players aren’t getting the point. The chances you’ll win are incredibly, incredibly small. Sock that one or two dollars a week that you spend on a ticket into anything, even a measly savings account, and unless you were that very lucky one, you’ll come out ahead. Think there aren’t people who are playing the lottery every week? Spend a few hours at a TV station between 10pm and 2a, for a few nights in a row — you’ll notice many of the same callers, needing the lotto numbers…

Woman taken from cruise for year-old marshmallow bust fine
I saw this on the wires at work, slugged as “Marshmallow Bust.” Intrigued, I read on. Not quite as interesting as I expected, but still strange.
