science of the bad hair day?

So researchers say a gene they've named Frizzled 6 is to blame for misbehaving hair. Interesting... I guess?

blame Canada (if your pizza's expensive)

Canada turns up heat on frozen pizza -- they're going to put a huge duty (tax) on self-rising pizzas imported from the U.S. Wow. Not good if you're looking for some good, cheap DiGiorno in Toronto. (from CNN)

(my apologies to the Canadian readership.)

warning: the following involves politics and math..

Math Against Tyranny takes a look at why the Electoral College is a good idea. It was written back in 1996, so the 2000 debacle isn't mentioned, but it's still very interesting. But heed the warning in the subject line. However, the article does use sports as a basis for its argument. Which is pretty cool.

high-tech stuff..

Wired 12.05: The Kingmaker is an interesting article about Walt Mossberg, the tech writer for the Wall Street Journal. He reviews lots of stuff -- his columns are syndicated in other newspapers, too (at least, it's in mine).

sorry, I'm a politics nerd...

"A Kerry Landslide?" takes an interesting look at some of the polls and factors playing a role in November. The article makes the case that no matter what, it won't be close -- which I think is a good thing.
